Agenti razionali e propensione al rischio: come testare l'emotività nelle scelte di investimento

Immaginate di aver effettuato uno studio sulla società Plastal, e di avere scoperto che le sue prospettive sono molto promettenti. Ne avete comperate 100.000 al prezzo di € 0,51 (totale 50 mila euro), ed ora, dopo sette giorni sono scese a 0.46 €. State perdendo il 10%!

A quale prezzo ora sareste disposti a rivenderle?

A – 0.49 €

B – 0.50 €

C – 0.51 €

D – 0.52 €

E – 0.54 €

Se avete risposto 0.51 o 0.52 potete tranquillizzarvi perché questa è la risposta della stragrande maggioranza dei piccoli investitori. Ora vorrei farvi una domanda di buon senso: qual è l’errore di fondo in questo tipo di reazione dell’investitore? Pensateci!

SOLUZIONE: L’investitore ha comperato le azioni sulla base delle prospettive della società, quindi secondo una logica fondamentale, perché si tratta di un buon affare. Ma quando vende, non pensa più alla società, alle sue potenzialità, alla sua dinamicità, ma pensa a se stesso, alla sua posizione in quell’operazione, vale a dire si preoccupa di non perdere. La sua operazione inizia con una logica, ma si conclude sulla spinta di un’altra logica: la logica di posizione! Il livello di uscita non è dato da un peggioramento dei conti della società, o da criteri fondamentali, ma è stabilito usando il metro di misura guadagno/perdita tipico della logica di posizione.

In teoria poteva entrare a 0.56 e uscire a 0.67, oppure entrare a 0.61 ed uscire a 0.72. La società stessa potrebbe valere 0.77 € ad azione ed essere fortemente sottovalutata, ma questo non interesserebbe più al nostro investitore, preoccupato com’è di non subire perdite!

Questo è un tipico errore di fondo: la logica di posizione è il meccanismo subdolo con cui la reazione psicologica dell’investitore si materializza in azioni concrete. Invece la logica di chiusura di un’operazione deve essere la stessa dell’apertura: non si possono cambiare i criteri di valutazione in corsa, non è corretto.

TEST 2

Immaginate di avere in portafoglio 4000 azioni Alambra acquistate un mese fa a 5 euro. Da due settimane circolano voci di un’importante acquisizione societaria da parte dell’Alambra, e da 5 sedute di Borsa la vostra azione realizza strappi positivi da 3 o 4 punti percentuali. Siete contentissimi, e pensate che il bello debba ancora venire. Avete in conto corrente ancora 50 mila euro liquidi investibili. Che cosa fate?

A – Comperate ancora azioni Alambra per 10 mila euro

B – Comperate ancora azioni Alambra per 20 mila euro

C – Comperate ancora azioni Alambra per 30 mila euro

D – Non fate proprio niente

E – Vendete tutte le azioni Alambra che possedete.

Chi ha risposto A oppure B sappia che si trova in buona compagnia, in quanto si tratta di una reazione frequente. Voglio tuttavia solleticare la vostra perspicacia nell’individuare dove si trova in questo caso l’errore di fondo dell’investitore.

SOLUZIONE: In questo caso la logica di posizione interviene all’inizio dell’operazione: state guadagnando bene, quindi vi sentite euforici e ci avete preso gusto; tanto più che anche in caso di perdita sareste protetti dai guadagni realizzati fino a quel momento. La posizione di vantaggio allenta le normali difese e fa diminuire la prudenza, così pensate di potervi permettere di rischiare di più, come in effetti succede. Anche qui la reazione psicologica si materializza sotto le mentite spoglie della logica di posizione.
Invece se l’operazione era iniziata con un determinato obiettivo, sulla base di una logica (fondamentale o tecnica) dovrebbe concludersi secondo gli stessi criteri, e non espandersi ulteriormente sulla semplice spinta emotiva.
Come avete visto, anche in situazioni molto semplici come quelle descritte, la psicologia dell’investitore esercita un’influenza determinante.
